For Kindred Thread Signature

In the 1960s – and even into the 1970s – girls were not allowed to wear pants to school. (I love wearing dresses, but I can’t imagine!) Melody has play clothes and fancy clothes in her wardrobe, but it seemed like she was missing something practical to wear to school. The Kindred Thread shirtwaist pattern is perfect for the era – shirtwaists were big in the Fifties, but carried into the Sixties as well; I’ve used this pattern (dated 1964) for my own wardrobe! The dress is stitched from lime green gingham, with a notched collar, cuffed sleeves, and a smartly pleated skirt. There’s even a tiny belt to match! For just the right amount of fluff in the skirt, Cecile is shown here wearing our Midcentury Ruffled Slip, sold separately.

Please note that the listing is for the Sixties Gingham School Dress only – the doll and any other accessories are not included. This dress is ready to order on an ongoing basis but may take up to two weeks to ship depending on existing inventory. Fits 18″ play dolls such as American Girl; we are not affiliated with American Girl or Mattel. Fabric and trim may vary slightly based on availability. Price includes FREE SHIPPING via first class mail to the United States and Canada. Intended for adult collectors.

Consumer Reviews

  1. Your dresses and outfits are so nice. The prints are perfect. I graduated from high school in 1966 and had a pink gingham skirt and blouse. This outfit brought back memories.
